What it takes to get six pack abs
By Michael Kim
It seems that many people want to shape up these days. Most are not happy with their beer belly, fat thighs, flab, etc. However, most people also get the false idea that as long as they do a 1000 crunches a day, they will eventually get rippling six pack abs. Unfortunately, no amount of crunches is going to get a person six pack abs. It does not work that way. To get six pack abs, one must lose fat covering their abdominal muscles. It does not involve a 1000 crunches, abs machines, or diet pills. The magic formula for six pack abs is a low calorie diet and a vigorous workout routine. It is simple as that. The diet for six pack abs is not a special fad diet. As long as calories are kept low, the fat will come off. One can even indulge in junkfood and still get six pack abs as long as calories are low. To calculate the amount of calories needed to lose fat, just multiply your bodyweight in pounds by 14. If weight loss stalls, just subtract 100 calories from your diet. Protein intake must also be kept high. This is because protein is difficult to digest and this causes the body to burn calories just to process the protein. Protein is also needed by the muscles for recovery. Consume around 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. In additon to dieting, an intense workout is required to melt away the bodyfat. A fullbody workout with free weights is the ideal exercise. A typical fullbody workout would include exercises such as squats, bench press, pullups, deadlifts, overhead press, bicep curls, tricep extensions, and barbell rows. The workout would be done 3 time a week with a day of rest in between. Cardio is optional. I have seen many gym goers lose fat without ever doing cardio. As long as your diet is in check and you never miss a workout, cardio is not needed. However, if you wish, it can be done on other days. There you have it. That's all it takes to get six pack abs. |

Nice article, but I'm too lazy to exercise to a high tempo and to stick to a diet. That's why I'll always have a layer of fat covering my *ahem* abs.
